Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on June 4, 1957.

The arms show the arms of the Counts of Rieneck, who ruled the city from the 13th century until 1559. The wavy bend on the arms probably symbolises the Lohrbach stream. The arms are already seen on the oldest seal of the city, which is known since 1408. During the centuries the number of bars and the colour of the bend often changed, as until 1957 the arms were not properly described.

Hupp showed in the 1920s the same arms, but with a green bend:
