Origin/meaning

Plön received city rights in 1236 from Count Adolf IV of Holstein, and the first seal dates from the middle of the 13th century. The arms of Plön were officially granted in 1896, based on the oldest seal, and slightly changed (colour and shape) on July 30, 1964.

The arms show the fortified city on the coast. The fish symbolises the importance of fishing for the city. The small shield shows the arms of the counts of Holstein.
