TIRASPOL

Region : Transnistria

Coat of arms of Tiraspol

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on March 29, 1978 and continued after the independence of Moldova and de-facto independence of Transnistria.

The arms refer to the Dniester river and show symbols of industry and agriculture. The colours were in 1979 defined as the colours of the Moldovan SSR and after 1989 they symbolise confidence (red), hope (green), credibility (blue) and well-being (gold).

The first coat of arms of Tiraspol was approved on November 7, 1847:

Coat of arms of Tiraspol

On February 18, 1868 new arms for Tiraspol were designed: in a silver shield a red mural bend, accompanied by two green acorns in the corners, and the coat of arms of the Kherson Province in a free canton; the shield is crowned with a silver mural crown and surrounded by golden ears and the ribbon of Czar Alexander. These arms were never approved.
