Shoulder Sleeve Insignia. Description: A red shield shaped device with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) white border, the overall dimensions 3 inches (7.62 cm) in height and 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm) in width, on which is a white head of a wolf, vignetted at the neck, detailed gray, eye and nose black.
Shoulder Loop Insignia. Description: A gold color metal and enamel insignia 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall, consisting of a shield divided horizontally into two equal halves gray over red, the lower half bearing a gold demi-sun in splendor surmounted by a gold bear on a green mound. Attached below the shield an arced gray scroll inscribed “LOS ANGELES USD” in gold letters.
Origin/meaning
The Shoulder Sleeve Insignia was approved 11 March 1975. The Shoulder Loop Insignia was originally approved 20 November 1931. It was amended on 10 May 1976 to add a Motto Scroll.
