LLAGOSTERA

Region : Catalonia
Province : Girona

Llagostera.jpg

Official blazon

Escut caironat partit: al 1r, d'argent, una llagosta de mar de gules posada en pal; i al 2n, de gules, un castell obert d'argent. Per timbre, una corona de baró.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on January 3, 2012.

The lobster (llagosta) is a canting symbol, which has been used by the town for a very long time. The castle is Llagostera Castle, which was the seat of a barony from the 14th until the 19th century.

Using a marine lobster has led to some controversy in the town, which is located far away from the coast.

The city council previously used a shield with the pales of Catalonia, the castle and with a lake or pond in the base, indicating that the name is derived from the Latin Lacus (lake). See on th eimage below where it is used on a street name (2012):
