LEMWERDER
State : Niedersachsen
District (Kreis) : Wesermarsch
German | blazon wanted |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on March 1, 1948. Until 1972 the municipality was named Altenesch.
The arms show in the upper part a steering wheel as a symbol for the shipbuilding and shipping on the Weser river.
The lower part shows a lively stepping white horse as a symbol for agriculture in the municipality. The horse also symbolises the historical dapple-grey horse "Kranich" with long mane and long tail. It was the favourite horse of Count Anton Günther of Oldenburg, who bred it in the south end of Lemwerder, at the former "Vorwerk Weyhausen", about 1640.
The colours of the arms are the colours of the Wesermarsch district.
