SALÀS DE PALLARS

Region : Catalonia
Province : Lleida

Salasp.png

Official blazon

Escut caironat d'atzur, una àguila bicèfala coronada de sable carregant al pit un escudet de gules amb tres palles d'or posades en banda, i sobremuntada d'un castell d'or obert. Per timbre, una corona mural de vila.

Origin/meaning

These arms have been officially granted on 3rd December 1987.

The traditional arms of the town show the double-headed eagle of the counts of Pallars (with the escutcheon with straws inside, that is canting: the straws are named "palles" in Catalan), because the local castle (11th century, shown too on the arms) belonged to this county, later marquisat.
