Origin/meaning
The village was named after Gaudentius (Gaudenz) Andreas Dunkler, Provost of Klosterneuburg at the beginning of the 19th century. The lands of the village were owned by the monastery of the Canons Regular (Augustiner-Chorherren) at Klosterneuburg.The arms show St Johann Nepomuk standing on a bridge. The church of Meidling is dedicated to this saint.St John Nepomuk is a saint connected with water (he was drowned in the Moldau river at Prague). So, many bridges are adorned by his statue and he is also a patron against the dangers of water - e.g. floods. Gaudenzdorf lies in the valley of the river Wien, a tributary of the Danube. Throughout history, the Wien river was very dangerous, because of its sudden floods. St John Nepomuk thus is an appropriate patron saint.
Gaudenzdorf is now part of the 12th municipal district, Meidling.
