Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on August 27, 1969.

The arms refer to the importance of horse breeding in the area. The 'Oldenburger' breed is a famous horse breed originating from the region.

The municipality first used the horse in its seal in 1936, but it was never used as proper arms until 1969. The colours gold and red are taken from the arms of the Diocese of Münster, to which the area historically belonged from 1252-1803.
