Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1956 and show in the upper half the castle in the town.

The castle was built between 1603 and 1613 from Statius of Münschhausen, who ruled the town as vassal for the Dukes of Braunschweig. The lower half of the arms shows a canting beaver with two tree trunks. The wavy bar symbolises the Weser river.

Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
