LAFNITZ

State : Steiermark
District : Hartberg

Lafnitz.jpg

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on November 2, 1998.

The name is derived from Latin "albantia", the white one (meaning the Lafnitz river). This was put into the arms as well as the smaller Lungitz brook, which flows into the Lafnitz within the municipality.

The sceptre denotes the fact that the lands here were first property of the Holy Roman Empire and passed to the Archbishop of Salzburg later on. The crozier may represent the Archbishop or the St Aegidius, abbot and hermit, patron saint of Lafnitz.
