NO 243 SQUADRON, ROYAL AIR FORCE
History: Formed at Cherbourg in September 1918.
Official blazon
A seahorse gules crined and finned Or holding a sword erect argent.
Motto: Swift in pursuit.
Origin/meaning
The Squadron was at one time stationed at Newcastle upon Tyne, whose Arms are supported by Seahorses. The Sword from the Badge of Fighter Command, symbolises the Operational Role of the Unit. The Badge was approved in June 1943.
