Origin/meaning
Licques was part of the County of Guînes. The arms of the municipality (and the Lords of Licques) were based on the arms of the Counts of Guînes who used golden bends instead of silver bends.
The Licques family, and its branches had many possessions, such as Camblain-Châtelain and even as far as Zwake in the Netherlands.
