Origin/meaningNeustadt an der Saale received city rights in the 13th century and the oldest seal is known since 1282. It already showed the combination of a city gate with in the gate an image of the bishop of Würzburg, as the city at the time belonged to the diocese and State of Würzburg. The composition thus has not changed since, but during the centuries there have been many changes in the size and shape of the different elements.
