Darmstad.kreis.jpg

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on August 7, 1962.

The lion in the arms shows the lion of the counts of Katzenelnbogen, who ruled most of the district, and had one of their main estates and castles in the city of Darmstadt. The stars around the small shield represent the municipalities in the district, each star represents one municipality in 1962.
