OUDEGEM

Province : Oost-Vlaanderen
Incorporated into : 1977 Dendermonde

Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted on November 12, 1957.

The arms are based on the arms of the Chapter of Our Lady from the Cambrai cathedral. The chapter used arms with three blue lions and a red chief. As supporter the figure of Our Lady was used. The municipality adopted these arms without the red chief. The local church and the village were a possession of the chapter from 1089 until the 18th century.

Literature : Servais, 1955
