Origin/meaning

The arms show the wheel and sword for St. Catherine, the local patron saint. The saint is shown with her attributes on the local seal dating from the late 18th century. The wheel was removed in the 19th century as it was seen as the symbol for the State of Mainz, to which the village belonged until 1803. As the whole composition was too complicated it was decided to design arms with only the wheel and sword.
