Origin/meaning
The arms have never been officially granted, but are based on the seal of the town dating from 1630.
The meaning of the arms is not known for sure, but they probably refer to the mail station in the town. The station was an important place to change horses on the mail roads. The village was dominated by the local castle of the Counts of Hoya, which had different arms (see Grafschaft Hoya).
