Official blazon

In von Silber und Schwarz geviertem Schild im ersten und vierten Feld je ein aufspringendes schwarzes Ross.

Origin/meaning

The arms are supposedly granted in 1545 by Viscount Georg Friedrich of Nürnberg, who ruled the town at the time. The arms show the quartered shield of the Hohenzollern family, the Viscounts of Nürnberg. The horses are a symbol for the horse breeding for which the area was famous. Originally the horses were shown in silver on the black quarters, but this was changed in 1902.
