Wapen van Deerlijk

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on July 29, 1937.

The arms are derived from the arms of the Costere family, Lords of Deerlijk mentioned in the 15th century. As these are the oldest known Lords of Deerlijk, the local council applied to be allowed to use these arms as municipal arms. The arms are derived from an engraving in a tomb in the local church.
