Origin/meaning :
The arms show the arms of the main territories or dynasties that ruled parts of the district. The first quarter shows the arms of the Counts and Princes of Nassau, the second the arms of the Counts of Merenberg, the third is the cross of the State and diocese of Trier, and the fourth quarter shows the arms of the 14th century Lords of Runkel.
