Escudo esquartelado com duas coticas de ouro passadas em aspa: o primeiro, de negro, duas espigas de milho e uma de trigo, tudo de ouro, em roquete, folhadas de verde; o segundo, de vermelho, uma cruz da Ordem de Malta de prata; o terceiro, de vermelho, uma águia estendida de ouro e armada de negro; o quarto, de negro, um faxetado de prata e azul de três peças encimado por uma fonte de prata. Coroa mural de prata de quatro torres. Listel branco com a legenda a negro: “ VILA DE ÁGUAS SANTAS “.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on June 18, 1991.

The upper part with the eheat and corn symbolisesthe agricultural character of the parish. The base shows a fountain as a canting element, the name means Holy Water.

The Maltese cross refers to the struggle against the Moors and the Monastery of Santa Maria de Aguas Santas. The eagle refers to Gonçalo Mendes, alocal hero and signifies strength.
