Official blazon
Swedish

I blått ett stim sillar av silver - ordnade tre, två, tre, två - och däröver en av en karvskura bildad ginstam av silver, belagd med en blå roddbåt.

English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on May 18, 1956.

The main activity in this island community has always been fisheries, especially for herring. The 10 herring in the arms thus symbolise the 10 main islands in the municipality, Björkö, Fotö, Grötö, Hyppeln, Hälsö, Hönö, Kalvsund, Knippla, Rörö and Öckerö. The chief also shows a local fishing boat.

Literature: Nevéus and de Waern, 1992
