ÖLFUS (ÖLFUSHREPPUR)

Arms of Ölfus

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms refer to the tide breakers (dolos) which were placed on the beach in Þorlákshöfn in 1974-76 to prevent erosion of the beach. Each one weighs just over 9 tons and a total of 2900 such stones were put in place in the area. They are thus a very typical landmark for the area and therefore were place on the logo-type shield.
