The pile pointing downwards alludes to the unit's mission: To attack and destroy enemy troops and armor from the sky. The eagle embodies swift flight, strength and courage. Our National bird, National colors and motto underscore the unit's mission on behalf of our constitutional freedom: Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.

The arms were approved effective 1 October 1987. It was amended to correct the blazon of the crest on 23 October 2002. The Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved effective 1 October 1987.
