39TH INFANTRY DIVISION DIXIE DIVISION, USA

History: The Division was activated in 1917 with Units from Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi. In 1923 it was redesignated 31st Infantry Division, the 39th Infantry Division was reactivatd in 1946 with Units from Louisiana and Arkansas. In 1967 the Division was reorganised as the 39th Infantry Brigade (Separate) with only Arkansas Units.

Shoulder Sleeve Insignia. Description: On a Gray oblong with rounded top the Greek letter Delta in Red, within the delta on a White background the letter D in Blue.

Origin/meaning

The SSI Shows the letter D inside a Triangle indiacting the Greek letter Delta. Thus making up two letters D alluding to the name Dixie Division.
