Cuarteles exteriores: El número de Cuarteles que componen la bordura son quince compones, distribuidos de manera alternativa en Granadas, Aguilas, Castillos, Leones y Palos, en número de tres por cada uno de estos símbolos. Corona: Corona Real Cerrada: Dorada con perlas, almohadillado rojo y pedrería. Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on February 7, 2005.
The cross in the arms is the cross of St. George, the patron saint of the city. The bordure is derived from the Spanish Royal arms and shows the lion of Léon, the castle of Castille, the pales of Aragón and the pomegranate of Granada (as Almería was part of the Kingdom of Granada).
