Origin/meaning
The arms are a combination of the eagle from the arms of the Counts of Are and the cross of Köln. The village belonged until 1246 to the Counts of Are, when it became a possession of the State and Archbishops of Köln. The combination of the eagle and cross first appears on the local seal in 1313.
The present arms were granted in 1885 and are based on this seal.
