ALTENMARKT BEI SANKT GALLEN

State : Steiermark
District : Liezen

Wappen von Altenmarkt bei Sankt Gallen

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on July 30, 1981.

The municipality is situated near the river Enns and at the so-called Eisenstraße, the Road of Iron (in the mining region of Upper Styria, near the Erzberg). Traffic has always been important. The river was used for timber rafting. Nowadays, a hydro-electric power plant makes use of the water.

The arms attempt to symbolise all this: The wheel and the rafters' oars are the symbols of the past, the turbine stands for the present. The blue bend stands for the river Enns, which links the past and the present to the future.
