Origin/meaning

The arms were adopted on September 27, 1948.

The boat refers to the Roman fleet ("classis anderitianorum") which was based in the city during the Roman domination. The chief refers to the fact that the city was owned by the chapter of Notre Dame de Paris from 829 to 1789 AD.
