Escudo de Arbeca

Official blazon

Escut caironat: de gules, un cap d'ocell d'argent portant al bec un ram d'olivera d'or fruitat de sable. Per timbre una corona de baró.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on July 12, 1988.

The head of a bird is a traditional canting sign of these arms: the bird's "bec" (Catalan for "beak") reminds the name of the town, and the olive-tree branch is for the main crop in the town; the "arbequina" olive is very esteemed to make an olive oil with denomination of origin. The baron crown is at the top of the arms because Arbeca was the centre of a barony.
