Company
These series were issued by the company Spit & De Vletter from Gouda, Holland. The company produced mainly all kinds of ropes, from curtains to fishing rods and nets. The cards were used to send to clients for setting the time for an appointment with a representative of the company.
The images of the arms are identical to a large trade card series "Arms and Flags" of approximately 75 cards issued by a number of Dutch companies. See for example Honig, Kraepelien & Holm, Neelmeijer, Smith, Van Dijk. The same series was also used by James as cigarette cards and by the Excelsior Fine Art Company as postcards.
