Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on December 15, 2011.

The colours of the shield - blue, white and red - are those of the Acadian flag. They refer to the association’s name and to the memory of Antoine and Étienne Hébert, the two pioneering brothers who settled in Port Royal around 1648. The wavy band symbolizes the ocean and the many voyages of the Acadian people during the founding of the colony, the deportations of 1755 and 1758, and the return to the country following the 1763 Treaty of Paris. It also refers to[Port Royal, the fishing trade of the ancestors, and the irrigation of the land using aboiteaux (sluices).

The star, like the anthem, badge and motto, was adopted as one of the symbols of Acadia at the second Acadian National Convention in 1884. It is also the Stella Maris, or star of the sea, a symbol of hope and a Marian symbol. The fleur-de-lis represents royalist France, the homeland of the pioneers of the Hébert family in Acadia.
