BÜKKÖSD

Province (county) : Baranya

Bükkösd (címer, arms)
Official blazon
Hungarian blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms with the sword is a symbol for defence. The two wings are derived from the arms of the Petrovszky family, governors of the Baranya county, who resided in the village in the 19th century. The wings are also a symbol of freedom. The cross symbolises the four villages that merged in 1979 into the new municipality of Bükkösd.

The crown is a typical medieval crown, indicating that Bükkösd is an old city. The crest shows the patron saint of the city, St. John of Nepomuk on a bridge. These two elements are taken from the historical seal of the city.
