Official blazon

In Blau eine goldene (gelbe) gezinnte Stadtmauer mit offenem, von einem doppeltgezinnten Turm überragten Tor; über der Mauer im linken Schildfeld freischwebend ein goldenes (gelbes) lateinisches Kreuz.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on May 9, 1973.

The arms are based on the image of the arms on a seal from 1390 (see below) and a coin from Driburg from 1215. The cross was added as a symbol of the State of Paderborn, to which the city historically belonged.

The new arms of 1973 were changed in colour, as the gold and blue were the historical colours of the city, whereas gold and red were the colours of the State of Paderborn.

The previous arms were officially granted on July 6, 1908.
