Wappen von Bad Köstritz/Coat of arms (crest) of Bad Köstritz
Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms are based on the seal from Pohlitz dating from around 1850. The lion is the lion of the Counts and county Reuss, to which the village belonged until 1918.

The shield with the two hands most likely was taken from the revolutionary arms of the Arbeiterverbrüdung (worker's brotherhood) from 1848. It was later described as a symbol for friendship or as a symbol for the spa and tourism.

The meaning of the sword is not known.
