Province : Kalimantan Selatan

Arms of Banjarmasin

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

I have no information on the origin or meaning of these arms. Any information is welcome.

Colonial arms

On July 21, 1928 the Indische Courant newspaper reported a discussion in the municipal council on the arms of Bandjermasin. According to the paper the design should include one or more long-nosed monkeys, a typical local monkey. The city had received a letter from the government in Batavia that they could not adopt arms without government approval. The chairman finally responded that he would not be hold responsible to send a design with monkeys for approval as city arms....

I have no image, nor any information whether there have been any further developments on this.
