Origin/meaning

The arms were initially granted on December 10, 1650 by Count Eberhard von Erbach and again on June 11, 1928.

The bear in the arms is obviously canting (Bär=bear). The stars are taken from the arms of the counts of Erbach (see also Erbach). Even though the field used to be gold, the arms were re-granted in silver in 1928 at the 600th anniversary of the granting of the city rights.
