Heraldry of the World Civic heraldry of Germany - Deutsche Wappen (Gemeindewappen/Kreiswappen) |
BELECKE
State : Nordrhein-Westfalen
District (Kreis) : Soest (until 1975 Arnsberg)
Amt : Amt Warstein (until 1975)
Incorporated into : 1975 Warstein
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on January 8, 1912 by King Wilhelm II.
The arms show St. Pancratius, the patron saint of the city. The saint already appears in the oldest seal of the city, known since the 14th century.
The seal of Belecke from 1401. |
All later seals have shown the same image. In the early 18th century the seals were not very clear, and the arms appeared in some rolls of arms as a female torso, instead of the saint.
