Origin/meaning

The arms were adopted in 1969.

The eagle is the Polish eagle and indicates that the town is part of Poland since 1945. The knight is the legendary founder of the town and the lower left quarter shows the importance of mining. The black pales refer to the coal, the green to agriculture.
