Wappen von Borgentreich

Official blazon

(de) Von Rot und Gold gespalten, vorn ein goldenes Vortragekreuz, hinten eine rote Lilie, darunter ein blauer dreifach gestaffelt-gezinnter Schildfuß.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on July 19, 1976 after the merger with Borgholz.

The arms show the historical cross of Borgentreich and the fleur-de-lis of Borgholz. The base of the arms symbolises the 12 towns and villages that merged in 1975 to form the new city.

Wappen von Borgentreich

The old arms show a uncommon cross, which is also seen in the arms of Verden, and which is probably derived from the cross of the State and diocese of Paderborn. The cross is used already in the 14th century, as it can be seen on the secret seal from 1341. The main seal, however, showed a church or castle. The cross has ever since been the symbol for the city. The colours were described in 1780 as red in silver, which was later changed in silver in red, similar to the colours of the State of Paderborn.
