Wappen von Boxberg

Official blazon

(de) In Gold auf grünem Dreiberg ein aufgerichteter schwarzer Bock.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on Ovctober 22, 1959, based on the oldest known coloured image from 1594. After the merger with the other municipalities the arms were again granted on March 10, 1977.

The arms are canting, showing a bock on a mountain (Berg). The bock appears already in the oldest known seals of the city, which probably date from the 14th century. The mountain was added in the 16th century.

Although the basic composition of the arms has not changed since, there are many variations known. The shape and size of the mountain as well as the bock has varied considerably. The present colours are known since 1594, but often different colours have been used, especially in the 19th century.
