Shoulder Sleeve Insignia. Description: On a Blue vertical rectangle arched convexly at top and bottom edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) Red border blazoned as follows: Azure, a pirate’s head couped Or, scarf Gules, eye patch Sable, hat of the like surmounted with a skull and crossbones of the third, grasping a knife Sable, between his teeth Or. Attached above the rectangle a Blue arched scroll edged Red inscribed “BROADMOOR” in 5/16 inch (.79 cm) Red letters. Attached below the rectangle a Blue arched scroll edged Red inscribed “BUCS” in 5/16 inch (.79 cm) Red letters. Overall dimensions are 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height and 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm) in width.

Shoulder Loop Insignia. Description: A gold colored metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in width, consisting of a blue wavy base, surmounted by a pirate ship black bearing five yellow portholes, sails white; all enclosed by a red triparted scroll inscribed “LOYALTY” “UNITY” “TRADITION” in gold letters.

Origin/meaning

Shoulder Sleeve Insignia: Columbia blue and red are the school’s colors. The pirate is the school’s mascot, a seafarer. The pirate suggests the location of Broadmoor High School, in Baton Rouge, along the Mississippi River.

Shoulder Loop Insignia: Columbia blue and red are the school’s colors. The pirate ship is the school’s mascot, the pirate.

The Shoulder Sleeve Insignia and the SHoulder Loop Insignia was both approved on 5 April 2001.
