Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on October 2, 1963.

The arms show in the upper part the arms of Bayern, as the district belongs already since the 12th century to the Wittelsbach dynasty, the ruling dynasty of Bayern. The lower part shows the importance of mining and industry in the district.
