CASSÀ DE LA SELVA

Region : Catalonia
Province : Girona

Escudo de Cassà de la Selva

Official blazon

Escut caironat: d'argent, un gos corrent de sable entre 2 alzines de sinople; el peu d'or, 4 pals de gules. Per timbre una corona mural de vila.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on October 15, 1990.

The arms are canting: a hound running between two trees alludes to the name of the town. Cassà sounds like "caçar" (Catalan for "hunting"), and the "selva" (forest) is symbolized here by the trees. At the base there are the royal arms of Catalonia-Aragon (four gules pales on gold), remembering the concession of privileges by the king Joan II in 1456, among them two annual fairs and one weekly market.
