Coats of arms of German Districts - Wappen der Landkreise

Germany is divided into just over 300 districts (Landkreise) and a number of Free Urban Districts (Stadtkreis, Kreisfreie Stadt).

In the 1960s/70s a large number of districts in West-Germany merged, reducing the number of districts by more as half. In the 1990s and in 2007/8 similar reorganisations took place in the former DDR.

In total around 680 (former) districts used arms. An overview of all images can be see here.

For a list of German districts without arms, see here.
