Origin/meaning
The first arms were adopted by the local council on August 27, 1894 and simplified t the current arms on February 17, 1925.
As no historical arms for the area were known, it was decided to use a canting oak tree (chêne) in the village arms. The initial arms from 1894-1925 showed the oak tree in a silver field on a version of the cantonal arms of the time. Only in 1925 the cantonal arms were removed and the arms have not changed since. As the blazon only states oak tree, the actual design has changed during the years.
The oldest use of a symbol or coat of arms for the village dates from 1864 on a flag for the village, a golden oak branch on a green field. Arms also appear in 1879 in a booklet on the local fire engines, a blue shield with an oak leaf. This seems to have had no official status and was not used on official documents.
Prior to 1894 the municipality seems to have used for some time a shield with an oak branch on its letterhead, but these arms were never officially approved.
