Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on January 12, 1995.

The lion is the lion of the County of Meissen, as a large part of the district historically belonged to Meissen. The bends are derived from the arms of the County and Counts of Schönberg, as parts of the district also belonged to Schönberg.
