CIUTADILLA

Region : Catalonia
Province : Lleida

Ciutadilla.png

Official blazon

Escut caironat: d'atzur, una espasa flamejada d'argent acostada de 2 escudets d'argent amb 2 faixes d'atzur. Per timbre una corona de marquès.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on September 6, 1994.

The arms show a flaming sword, being the symbol of St. Michael, the local patron saint. The two shields at each side are the arms of Guimerà family, the landlords of the town since the 14th century. Ciutadilla became a marquisat in 1702, and because of that its arms have the marquis crown.
