COURNON-D'AUVERGNE

Département : Puy-de-Dôme

Blason de Cournon-d'Auvergne/Arms (crest) of Cournon-d'Auvergne
Official blazon
French De gueules à la champagne ondée d'azur, à la crosse d'or brochant sur letout, adextrée d'une croix ancrée et senestrée d'une couronne de lauriers le tout du même.
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The town was originally divided between two lords: the gold crosier symbolizes the bishop of Clermont and the anchored cross comes from the arms of the Escot family. The laurel wreath bears witness to the Gallo-Roman past of the city, of which several remains have been discovered. The wavy bar symbolizes the river Allier and reminds us that Cournon was once an old fishing port.
